Chester Lee Green Obituary

Chester was born to the union of Rosie Scott Green and L. G. Green on July 6, 1960 in Rosedale, Mississippi and passed into eternal rest on August 10, 2016 after a courageous battle with kidney cancer.

Chester accepted Christ at an early age, and was baptized at Eastern Star Baptist Church in Rosedale, Mississippi. Chester was a member of Northwestern Missionary Baptist Church upon his passing, and served as a teacher in junior church.

Chester was a graduate of Jesup W. Scott High School and worked at Schrader Tire and Oil and Ohio Iron and Metal immediately after graduation, then went to work at Hunt Wesson Foods for 20 years until they were sold to Conagra and the plant closed. Following the closing of Hunts, Chester successfully started up and operated Smooka Bear Child Care and Our First Love day care centers.

Chester loved children and this is evident in the way that he mentored to the numerous children that were enrolled in the day care centers. Some of these children, who are now adults, have recently visited to express their love and admiration for the many ways that he changed their lives with his patience and kindness.

Chester was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler’s fan since the 1970’s, and was pivotal in us siblings becoming Steeler fans as well. We will greatly miss getting together with him to cook mountains of food and watch the Steeler’s play. Chester was also a Los Angeles Laker’s and Ohio State Buckeye’s fan and enjoyed bowling and fishing. In recent years you could bet on him being at the Lost Peninsula Marina fishing with his dog Marley at the crack of dawn, or fishing with his uncle Kenny Scott in the little aluminum boat in big water.

Left to share the precious moments of Chester’s contagious smile is his mother Rosie Turner (Nathaniel). His children Regginal Penrose, Angeline Green (Robert Sr.) and Johnetta Johnson; grandchildren Chestin Penrose, Akacia Penrose, Robert Hornbeak, Rhylee Hornbeak, Kyra Noble and Kiala Noble; sisters Joyce Green, Patricia “Tricia” Jones, Colleen Green, Letishia “Neicey” Green, Stella “Skit” Hampton, and Michelle Matheney; brothers Willie ”Big Will”Green (Robin), Dwight Green (Laura) and Leon “PacMan” Green. Chester is also survived by his very loving and supportive significant other Dora Walden and her children; Tamika Bethany (Robert Jr.), Terrence (Jamie) and Edwin.

Chester was preceded in death by his infant son Chestin Green, father L. G. Green, maternal grandparents, paternal grandparents and big brother Leon Gilbert Green.

Special thanks to our aunt Letishia Taylor and Chester’s girlfriend Dora Walden, who served as primary care givers during Chester’s courageous battle.

A celebration on Chester’s vibrant life will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016 at the House of Day Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with wake preceding, at 10:00 a.m. at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church. Pastor Willie Knighten of Northwestern Missionary Baptist Church will eulogize the ceremony.
