Odie Nelline Potter, age 92 of Muskegon, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 1, 1927 in Camden, TN to the late Marshall Curtis and Annie May (Bomar) Herrin.

Nelline graduated from Camden High School. After graduation, she taught in a one-room school house in Camden. She also did clerical work at a facility in “The Secret City” of Oak Ridge, TN, established in 1942 to serve as a home base to the Manhattan Project, which, unbeknownst to her at the time, was where the atomic bomb was being produced. Nelline became a mother to many, and was a pillar of the church with her loving, compassionate, nurturing nature. She was a dedicated prayer warrior and loved to study God’s Word. Nelline was faithful to impart it to others through her teaching of the Bible. Her family was very important to her and she loved spending time with them; singing, sharing her great southern cooking, and playing Chinese checkers and other games with the grandchildren. Nelline leaves a beautiful legacy of deep faith in God and love of family.

She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her daughter, Karen (Fred) Summerfield; and son, Chuck (Julie) Holland all of Muskegon; also by Fred and Jodi Holland and David Rowe, whom she loved as her own children; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; two siblings, Janice (O.J.) Douglas and Ted (Dorothy) Herrin, all of TN; and two special nieces, Sandi VandenBoom and Kathy Sanka.

Nelline was preceded in death by her daughter, Delilah (Jim) Potter; four sisters: Alva Lee Lockhart, Marie Luther, Audrey Walker and Opal Staton; two brothers, Jim Herrin and Aaron Herrin; and dear family friend, Doris Summerfield.

The Funeral Service for Nelline will be at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Oak Crest Church of God (1540 Leonard Ave, Muskegon MI) with Pastor Fred Summerfield officiating.
