<p>Arkerdella Lewis Howard brought closure to a beautiful life on earth on Monday, March 19, 2012 at the Laurels of Toledo, Ohio, her home for the last 5 years.</p><p><br></p><p> Arkerdella was born in Widener, Arkansas on November 23, 1924, she was the second of nine children born to the late Maggie Nicholson Lewis and Ossie Lewis. Arkerdella attended Toledo Public Schools, graduating from Jessup W. Scott High School in 1943. Arkerdella worked for Great Lakes and Supreme Life Insurance Companies as an agent and Secretary. She later worked for her brother Sylvester Lewis's, Colorama Painting Company as Executive Secretary. Arkerdella was married twice, first to James Judge, she later married the love her life Columbus L. Howard in May,1965. Their union lasted for 32 years until his passing in January, 1998.</p><p><br></p><p> At the age of 17, Arkerdella joined and remained a longtime active member of Mt.Zion Missionary Baptist Church, under Pastor Elijah Benton. She served in the capacities of Usher and Secretary. She was a Charter Member of United Missionay Baptist Church where she served as long as her health permitted. Arkerdella's commitment to and work in both churches is a testament to her love of the Lord and his people. She also served the community through her years of committed involvement in the Women's Service Institute, Welfare Charity Club, Federated Women's Club and a 40 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Rachel Chapter #14.</p><p><br></p><p> Arkerdella leaves to celebrate her life, love and memory, sisters Mayome Smith and Nancy Bey, brother Franklin Lewis, sister-in-law Daisy Lewis, devoted caregiver and eldest neice Donna M Jordan, lifelong sister friend Fannie Markey and a host of neices, nephews, cousins and friends. In Heaven, Arkerdella joins her parents, her husband and siblings Ruth Lewis, Dorothy Wright, Frances Spencer, Sylvester Lewis and Charles Lewis Sr.</p><p><br></p><p> Thank You to the staff, STNA's and Nurse's at The Laurels of Toledo and Hospice of Northwest Ohio who worked directly in Arkerdella's care.</p><p><br></p><p> Funeral services are Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the United Missionary Baptist Church, 2705 Monroe St. Wake 11:00. Funeral 12:00 PM. Rev. Robert G. Bass Officant. Viewing will be Friday, March 23, 2012, 4-6 PM, Eastern Star Rites 5:30 PM. at the House of Day Funeral Service, 2550 Nebraska Ave.</p>
