Herbert Taylor Obituary

Herbert, better known as "Butch" Taylor, was born in Toledo, Ohio to the union of Percy and Fannie Taylor on September 15, 1940. He departed this life in his home on Thursday, August 5, 2010. He was educated in the Toledo Public School System. He attended Gunckle Elementary, Robinson Jr. High and Scott High School class of 1958. Butch was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and attended almost every home football game with his brother, David for the last 30 years. Butch was a very good baseball and basketball player that played on several championship teams. He also bowled several years in the Local 48, George Caldwell and Dunbar Elks leagues. He traveled all over the country to bowling tournaments. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1963. He served with the military police (MP) as Fort Gordon, Georgia, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Fort Richardson, Alaska. After being honorably discharged from the Army he returned to Toledo. He worked over 30 years at the Unitcast Corporation. He held several elected positions in UAW local 48. After the closing of the Unitcast he went to work for Johnson Control from which he retired. Butch was married to his wife, Helen (Gainey) Taylor for 48 years. To that union two sons were born, Reginald Stacey Taylor and Rodney Lamonte Taylor. He is survived by his dedicated wife, Helen; sons, Reginald (Melissa) of Atlanta, Georgia, Rodney of Atlanta, Georgia, grandchildren, Vincent of Inkster, MI, Keyonna of Toledo, OH and Joshua, Jared and Jameel, all of Atlanta, Georgia; great-grandchild, Johnathan; sisters, Shirley (John) Lawson and Barbara Talley; brothers, Ronald (Jackie deceased) Taylor and David (Shirley) Taylor, all of Toledo, OH. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, former team mates and co-workers. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Fannie Taylor; son, Gregory Griffin; close aunt, Willie Ethel Fields and good friend and brother-in-law, Willie Allen. Funeral Services will be Thursday August 12, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church, 1502 N. Detroit Ave., Rev. James H. Willis Pastor. Wake services will be Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at The House of Day Funeral Services Chapel. Please sign register book at:
