Augustine Hooker Obituary

Augustine “Augie” Hooker 59 of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2008. He was born September 10, 1948, in Toledo, Ohio to Cleveland Sr. and Daisy Hooker, whom proceeded him in death along with his loving wife of twenty-three years, Gail Patricia Hooker, sisters Bernadine and Erma Hooker and brother, Cleveland Hooker Jr. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior many years ago at the New Light Baptist Church under the late Reverend Gabriel. He later joined Friendship Baptist Church were he was an active member and part of the IOP ministry.


Augie was a providing, strong, intellectual, educated African-American Man. He acquired a license in cosmetology and an Associates Degree in Social Services from the University of Toledo and Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Lourdes College where he frequently made the Deans List. He was employed with the Salvation Army in the late 1980’s to the early 1990’s as a Program Director were he assisted many families for social and recreational needs in the Eastside Community. During this time he provided countless jobs for teenage kids through the PIC Program. He then became a long time employee for AMPCO System Parking where his dedication and hard work propelled him from an hourly wage to a top salaried management position.


Augie wasn’t immune to struggle either. He endured many trying times in his life yet he always managed to pull himself and family through. His sixteen years of continual and uninterrupted sobriety not only changed his life around for the better but, made many others walk on the same path. He was the president of the Board at New Concepts. He was an avid listener, comforter, and advisor when family and friends needed guidance and a shoulder to lean on. He enjoyed fishing, boxing, horseracing, basketball, football, and playing the lottery. And along with his departure he takes a big part of the Northside “Out Stickney” with him. He will be truly missed by all yet never forgotten, so in the words of Mr. Augustine Hooker: “Stay Focused and always keep your prospective!”


He leaves to mourn his passing, sisters Annie (Greg) Hawthorne, Mary Hampton, and Monique Hooker. Sisters-in-law, Beverly “Princess” Tate. Ethel Burton and Glendora Hearn both of Chicago, Illinois. Sons, Terry Woodard, Robert and David Holman and Derain Rucker, special nephew and namesake Dorin Augustine Hooker. Special daughters, Jaime Gulley and Nichole Anderson. Grandchildren, Tyrice Hill, Brandon, Terri, Marcos, and Ozella Woodard and D’Ara Barber, Kerstin and Jeremiah Holman, Dishelle, DiCynthia, Khadijah, Dymond, Tyqwon, Daveyon and Destiny Rucker and great-grand children, Shaniy and Tylee Woodard and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nephews, and Nieces and a variety of loving neighbors, co-workers, and close personal friends.



Funeral Services will be Saturday May 24, 2008 at Friendship Baptist Church at 9:30am preceded by 9:00am Wake services. Visitation services will be held from 6:00-8:00pm Friday at The House of Day Funeral Services Chapel.
