<p>Rita Theresa McCuaig</p><p>November 5, 1942 – November 21, 2022</p><p><br></p><p>Rita Theresa (Sand) McCuaig of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan passed away on November 21, 2022, following a long fight with leukemia for several years, a recent bout with shingles, and a few other conditions. She was born on November 5, 1942, the third child born to Mike and Rosa Sand.</p><p><br></p><p>Rita was predeceased by her parents Mike and Rosa (Foerster) Sand; brothers-in-law Kenneth Girodat, Marcel Arcand, Donald Keindel, Drayson Parker, and grandson Derek McCuaig.</p><p><br></p><p>Rita is lovingly remembered by her partner of 30 years, John Smith, and her 4 children;</p><p>Michael (Mary Ann), Karl, Kelly Ann (Marcel) Bussiere and Gerry (Amber);</p><p>grandchildren Christopher (Becky), Jennifer (Andrew), Shelby (River), Max (Andrew), Brian and Kyra; great grandchildren Dakota, Madison, William and Soleil.</p><p><br></p><p>She is survived by her siblings Rose Ann Keindel, Joan Girodat, Marilyn (Gordon) Girodat, Carole Arcand, Robert (Brigitte) Sand, Henry (Gail) Sand, Geraldine (Willie) Yacishyn and Angela (Blake) Barsness; many nieces and nephews; as well as Shelly Parker, Duncan McCuaig, Dorothy McCuaig, Ada Materi (Denny) and Danny McCuaig.</p><p><br></p><p>Rita was the 3rd of 9 children born to Mike and Rosa Sand. She grew up on the farm and when the Voll School closed its doors, they moved into town and she attended school in Shaunavon until graduation. She worked many jobs over the years; The Fun Spot, The Single Parent’s Club, Ability Centre, Rolicks – The King’s Hotel, The Shaunavon Hotel all while making many friends over the years. She was a member of the CWL since 1962. Rita was a single parent of 4 children and spent countless hours at the local hockey rink watching her children play hockey and figure skate. She loved to read and in previous years enjoyed writing and receiving letters. She was a fountain of knowledge and enjoyed watching game shows, doing word seek and crossword puzzles, clipping out news articles from the local newspaper, going for drives in the country, but mostly enjoyed being at home. Rita was a quiet person, but she had a great love for life, her family and her pets. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.</p><p><br></p><p>Funeral Services were held on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. from Christ the King R.C. Church in Shaunavon with Reverend Father Melchor Samonté officiating. Interment took place at St. Mary’s R.C. Cemetery in Shaunavon. Prayer Services were held on Friday, November 25, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. at Christ the King R.C. Church. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) was in charge of the arrangements.</p><p><br></p><p>Pallbearers were Mike McCuaig, Karl McCuaig, Brian McCuaig, Kyra McCuaig, Gerry McCuaig and Max McCuaig.</p><p><br></p><p>Memorial Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Swift Current S.P.C.A, in care of Binkley’s Funeral Service at (306) 297-2412 or Toll Free at 1-877-BINKLEY.</p><p><br></p>
