Erma Berndt Obituary

Erma Iona Berndt (Rosencrans), 90, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Monday, November 21st, 2022, at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND. She was born at their rural home in Denbigh, ND, to Alfred and Nora (Thomas) Rosencrans. Erma attended country school and worked on the family farm and neighboring ranches until she met the love of her life, Alvin Berndt Sr.

Alvin and Erma united in marriage in Richland, Montana, on December 23rd, 1953, and developed their first farmstead in rural Towner, ND. They later moved to a small homestead in southern McHenry County on May 8th, 1965. Erma spent her life as a homemaker raising their children and assisting in the daily ranch operation. She had a love for animals, baking, playing cards, and spending time with her family. Erma loved to visit and was often known for sharing her viewpoint. She was the patrol of the ranch and loved the adventure of country living.

She is survived by her sister, Jean (Lyle) Carpenter of Towner; her three sons, Alvin Jr (Lori) Berndt of Rugby, Alan Berndt of Union Star, MO, and Frederick (Tara) Berndt of Balta; three daughters, Pearl Weber of WY, Lois (Joel) Fillion of Clarksdale, MO and Stacy Friestad of Rugby; grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Berndt Sr.; son, Alfred; son-in-law, Corky; sisters, Alice, Edna, and Lois; brothers, Fred, Russel, Alfred and Tom and her parents.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 28 at 1:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby with burial in the Union Cemetery, Towner.


Visitation will be from 9:00 to the time of services on Monday at the funeral home.
