Harold “Butch” Hackett Jr., 67, of Charleston, Illinois passed away peacefully Sunday, November 13, 2022, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Butch was born December 2, 1954, in Charleston, Illinois the son of Harold Harry and Phyllis (Heffner) Hackett Sr. He married his eighth-grade sweetheart Linda Jo Grissom on October 18, 1975, and they just celebrated their 47th year anniversary in Charleston, Illinois and she survives. He is survived by his mother, Phyllis Hackett; son, Darren (Nicole) Hackett; daughter, Shayna Williams; four grandchildren, Madison Hackett, Kellan Hackett, Mackensie Williams, and Hadlie Williams; one brother, Dave Hackett; and eight nephews, Derek (Mary), Dustin, Austin, Sean (Erin), Brooks, Bret, Tony, and Terry Hackett. He was preceded in death by his father; and two brothers, Mike and Mark Hackett.

Butch graduated from Charleston High School class of 1973.  Shortly after high school, Butch began his career at the United States Postal Service as a mailman. After 35 years of service, he retired as postmaster of the Charleston Post Office. He also worked 27 years for H&R Block and prior to his death was employed by Dust & Son. He was a lifelong member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church and more recently, a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and Home Church. You could catch Butch cheering on his favorite teams, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had an interest in coin and stamp collecting and had collected many over the years. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing and chauffeuring his wife Linda around on shopping trips. Butch’s outgoing personality was known for being a jokester and very much a people person. His true love was time spent with his family and grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Butch's laughter, heart and joy for life was so contagious. Moving forward we will honor him by living the same way. Butch’s grandchildren were his pride and joy. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his honor may be made to the Hackett Grandchildren Trust and mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL  61920.
