Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Father, Father-in-law, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, John Hansen.

John is pre-deceased by his parents, Karl and Queenie, and sister Betty. John leaves to mourn him, his beloved wife of 65 years, Rose; his 6 children, Carl, Ingrid (Art), Les (Sue), Ken (Lisa), Greg (Stephanie), Brian (Meg); his 9 Grandchildren, Chris (April), Chantel, Nicholas, Emma, Paige, Julia, Emelie, Ari and Aiden; 2 great-grandchildren Kensington and Greyson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

John was born in Copenhagen, Denmark where at the age of 19 he immigrated to Canada. This had always been a dream of his and John set out on his new adventure, arriving in Nova Scotia aboard the Giorgio on June 22, 1951, with $50.00 in his pocket.

Canada’s doors opened new opportunities for him including logging in British Columbia, riding the rails across Canada, learning English along the way, and working numerous jobs.

One of John’s stops was in Brandon, Manitoba where he met the love of his life Rose. John and Rose moved to Toronto where they married and started a family. Their new life together brought them to Winnipeg where John worked for Crescent Creamery; ice cream was always a favourite of John’s.

John worked hard at many jobs to support his growing family and eventually took a management position at Sears where he worked for 20 years, retiring in 1991.

John and Rose had many adventures together; they returned to Denmark numerous times to visit family. They loved cruises and enjoyed travelling with family and friends.

We wish to thank the nurses, aides, and staff at Meadowood Manor Personal Care Home.

A private Celebration of Life was held, and the family will hold a private ceremonial farewell at a later date.
