Karen Scribner Obituary

Karen Scribner was born in 1933 to Mary and Ole Olsen in Holeby, Denmark. After growing up in Denmark during the German occupation in World War II, Karen went on to graduate from the Danish Gymnasium in 1951. She spent the following year in London perfecting her English while working for an English barrister and his wife. Upon returning to Denmark, she worked as an elementary teacher, a corporate secretary and a ground hostess for the Scandinavian Airline System. In the summer of 1958, Karen met a young American who was working on a farm near her parents' home. She and Wilson Scribner fell instantly in love. Through the sponsorship of his father, she immigrated to Wisconsin to eventually marry her love. After getting married they spent their first year at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. In 1963, the couple moved to Neenah, Wisconsin where Wilson had taken a job with the Neenah Joint School District. They were subsequently blessed with five children. Karen and Wilson shared a serious passion for travel. Their adventures included a year living in Scotland, numerous trips to other European countries and opportunities for Karen to spend time in her homeland. Back in Wisconsin, Karen was a member of St. Margaret Mary's parish, belonged to a Fox Cities Scandinavian Club and was a knitting instructor at the Little Mermaid and the YMCA. She also served, for a time, as co-president of the Wilson School PTA, was a counselor for a Fox Valley Pregnancy Hotline, worked regularly at the Red Cross Blood Bank and was actively involved in the polls on election days. Karen fought a difficult disease with dignity and class for the past 22 months. Her deep and lasting love with her husband was terminated when she was called home by the Lord at 7 A.M. on Thursday, September 23, 2010. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary, her father, Ole, and her older sister, Nete. She is survived by her husband, Wilson, her five children: Tanja, Erik, Maria, Alex and Jeannette, her seven grandchildren: Alec, Nicole, Katrina, Elena, Dominic, Kai and Kiele as well as her brother Henry and sister Dorrit. The funeral liturgy for Karen will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 27, 2010, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 620 Division Street, Neenah with Fr. Michael Ingold officiating. Interment will be in Liberty Corners Cemetery, Buena Vista, Wisconsin. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 A.M. Monday until the time of the mass. Memorials have been established for St. Paul Elder Services or the American Cancer Society. Service Information A service summary is not available
