Audrey E. Ward, 94, formerly of Neenah for 35 years, passed away peacefully of heart failure with her family by her side on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Renaissance Assisted Living, Appleton, where she lived for 2 years. Audrey was born on December 21, 1921, in Pelican Lake to Richard and Mae (Schoepke) Priem. Audrey grew up in Lily at Priems Store with her parents and sister as well as her extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She married Hubert 'Herb' Ward Sr. on September 1, 1946, Herb was from Texas, the two met at Stevens Point University where Audrey was a college student and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Education. Audrey was a dedicated teacher for over 35 years and loved the children she educated. She taught elementary school in West, Texas, as well as other communities in other states. Audrey served the Neenah community for over 17 years as an elementary school teacher, beginning at Hoover and lastly at Coolidge before her retirement at the age of 66. Audrey was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Neenah, for 37 years and devoted her time to the Ladies Guild, the church choir, and the Red Hat Society with her wonderful friends from the church. She enjoyed knitting, loved traveling, and spending time fishing at Post Lake where her dad had a cottage. Audrey also spent time in Lily, later in life, with her daughter Ginny and her family. Audrey was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed fun times with her family. She was very strong and fought hard after each of her 4 different hospitalizations in the past 2 years. She is survived by her daughters Ginny (Kevin) Muthig and Jana (Cliff) Wood, grandchildren: Richard (Jenny) Muthig, Bonnie (Greg) Kortz, Wendy (Jason) Lewandoski, Missy (David) Barnett and Travis (girlfriend Sam Behrent) Kleiber; great-grandchildren: Lilly Lewandoski, Trinity Besaw, Autumn Muthig, George Barnett, Jayla Kortz, Elsie Barnett, special little girl Ryleigh Behrent and baby Kleiber on the way as well as many cousins, other family members and many friends. Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Hub Ward Jr., daughter Candy Kleiber and sister Virginia Priem. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 PM, on Monday, October 3, 2016, at Peace Lutheran Church, 1228 S Park Ave., Neenah, with Rev. Ricky P. Schroeder officiating. Visitation will be Monday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Lily Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established at Renaissance for an outdoor arbor and sitting area The family would like to thank AseraCare Hospice and the loving employees of Renaissance Assisted Living who took wonderful care of Audrey. She loved it at Renaissance and called it home.
