Ronald John Rowe Obituary

ROWE, Ronald John – Passed peacefully away at the Dr. L.A. Miller Centre on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, Ronald John Rowe of Mount Pearl, formerly of Heart’s Content, age 68 years. Predeceased by parents: Gordon and Annie Rowe; infant brother David; parents-in-law William and Dorothy Budden. Leaving to celebrate his life, his wife Sandra; daughter Sheena (Travis Shears) and son Stefan; two darling grandchildren: Myla Shears and Ashton Rowe; brothers: Jim (Carol) and Bob (Mary); sisters: Doris (Mike Langille), Laurie (Bernard Pitcher), Claudine (Leonard Hannabury) and Suzanne (John O’Neill); brothers-in-law: Gerald Budden (Christine), Gary Budden (Lillian) and sister-in-law: Sharon Sheppard (Eric); good and constant friend Bob Peddle; also a large circle of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Ron was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was delighted when his first grandchild Myla, was born in January 2020 and later in June of 2021 he was blessed with another grandchild, Ashton.

An avid sports follower, he truly loved his Toronto Maple Leafs, Dallas Cowboys and also a good cartoon from time to time.

Having to retire from the glass business for health reasons, he found another passion working on used vehicles and restoring them so they could be roadworthy again. He was always scouting the car lots for a good deal and when he found it he would purchase it, do what work needed to be done and then use it for a few years and then on to another. Most often the vehicle would be a Jeep. This was a great pass time for him and he truly loved it.

In earlier years he coached minor hockey with the Mount Pearl Minor Hockey Association and many a night he would tie up the phone talking to his good friend, Bob, planning their latest strategy. After his health improved somewhat, he joined the Mount Pearl Men’s Rec. League for several years and also seeked out hockey scrimmage games at Twin Rinks in St. John’s where he played for several years.

Most recently still having some time on his hands he took a position with the City of St. John’s as a crossing guard, first with Vanier Elementary and the latest with Hazelwood Elementary. He really enjoyed helping the children cross the street and looked forward to going there twice a day. As his health started to fail, he realized he would no longer do this.

Ron was also a lover of animals, having adopted several dogs from the SPCA. He treated the many dogs he had over the years as members of the family and they surely ruled the roost. When Stefan’s dog died after having her puppies, he helped bottle feed six puppies every few hours until they could eat on their own. Three of the puppies eventually found homes but three remained with Ron and eventually were spoiled like the ones before them.

Although Ron could not speak in his final weeks, the expressions he made with his beautiful eyes told it all. To say he was loved and will be dearly missed is quite an understatement. Until we meet again…

Visitation will be held at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl on Monday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Memorial service to take place from Barrett’s Mount Pearl Chapel on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Interment at a later date. As expressions of sympathy and as Ron was a lover of animals, donations in his memory may be made to the SPCA or a charity of one's choice.
