Gloria Jean Pickard Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Gloria Pickard announce her passing on November 13, 2022 at the age of 73. Gloria will be lovingly remembered by her father, Don (Siri) Lorenson; mother-in-law, Mary Pickard; her sisters, Marsha (Ross) Purdy, Darlene Hanson and Sandra Lorenson; her sister-in-law, Jean Lorenson; her children – Brandi (Jeff) Farmer and Brad (Nadine) Pickard and her treasured granddaughters Bailey, Chelsea, Blair and Marika. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years, Garth Pickard; her mother, Martha Lorenson; her brother, Rick Lorenson; and her father-in-law Norman Pickard. She will be greatly missed by many other loving relatives and dear friends.

Gloria was born on April 25,1949 in Elk Point, Alberta. She grew up on a farm and loved her horses and spending time outdoors. Gloria studied Education at the University of Alberta and went on to spend many happy years as an elementary school teacher, a job that allowed her to follow in her mother’s footsteps and suited her warm personality perfectly. She was a devoted mother and took time away from her career to raise her children.

Gloria loved to be active and could often be seen walking her dog, Sheba, and later, Callie, and working in her garden. She enjoyed music, dancing, reading, and expressing herself through poetry – her granddaughters could be sure to receive a special poem each year for their birthday.

Gloria, Garth, Brandi and Brad took countless trips to Muriel Lake and Elk Point, Alberta, as well as to Arizona, to spend time with their extended family over the years. On those trips Gloria loved nothing more than sharing a laugh and a story with her loved ones. Gloria and her family also enjoyed many ski trips to the mountains. Later in life, Gloria and Garth would travel to various places around the world with family and friends, inspiring a sense of adventure and a love of travel in her children.

Gloria’s family wish to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Langenburg Centennial Care Home for their care and compassion. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date with family. If friends so desire donations may be made to the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Society of Canada in Gloria’s memory.
