Lawrence Theodore Oberst


Lawrence Oberst (Larry) passed away on November 7, 2022 at St. Lucie Hospital in Florida.


He is survived by his loving wife Karen Oberst of Port St. Lucie, FL, sons Scott Oberst of Simsbury, CT, John Oberst of Vero Beach, FL and a daughter Tammy McKay of Windsor, CT. He is also survived by his son-in law Dan and beautiful granddaughter Kendall McKay, his brothers Danny Oberst of Wakefield, MI, Adolph Oberst of Idaho, Dennis Oberst of Wyoming and several nieces and nephews. He leaves many of Karen’s family with whom enjoyed a close relationship; Albert LaGrange Jr. his father-in law, of Windsor, CT, Kathy Moore, sister-in-law of Manchester, CT, Albert LaGrange III brother in law and his wife Darlene of Vero Beach, FL, Ann Marie LaGrange, daughter in law of Windsor Locks. CT in addition to several nieces and nephews.


After graduating High School, Larry continued his education in the US Navy. Although he sailed on many ships, he had a special place in his heart for the submarines he was assigned. During his time in service he sailed the Mediterranean and Asiatic Seas and the South Pacific and also served three tours in Viet Nam.


After his discharge in 1970 he resided in Tariffvillle, CT where he raised three beautiful children. He was employed by Combustion Engineering /ABB in Windsor, CT for thirty three years then retired in 2006 and built a home in Port St. Lucie, FL. with his wife Karen.


Larry had a love for model trains and had quite the collection. He enjoyed playing tennis and watching his children become successful adults. He also enjoyed cruising the Caribbean and loved music and dancing.  Larry was a great baker and enjoyed that very much.  Larry was also very well know for his love of Jeopardy.
