George W Sproat

Long time Sisters resident George W Sproat passed away quietly November 3, 2022. He was born in Terrebonne OR the fourth child of William LeRoy Sproat and Eva Lucille (Chapman) Sproat. He attended school in Central OR and went on to serve in the Navy from 10/31/1950 the day after turning 21 until being discharged August 1954. He married his wife Charlotte Jean Ladrow May 1951 had their daughter Cindy while stationed in California and returned to Sisters where they had three more children, daughter Linda, Son Bryan, and daughter Tana. Lindo preceded her parents in death October 1974. Charlotte passed September 2005. He had 4 grandsons, 2 granddaughters, 7 great grandsons, 4 great granddaughters and 1 great-great granddaughter.

His career path included working for many years for Barclay Logging and in 1963 starting George’s Septic Tank Service which was his afterwork job. To say George was a hard worker would be an understatement.

George’s service to his community spanned decades. He served on the Sisters City Council sixteen years from 1963-83, ten of those 1973-83 as mayor. In 1999 he joined Habitat for Humanity and in 2011 was given the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award for having given more than 4000 hours of service to one organization.

One of his favorite accomplishments was his 1942 Packard which was restored with friends and family including a them 5-year-old grandson at his feet.

They don’t make too many men like George. Dad you will be greatly missed.

Graveside services will be 1:00 o’clock November 15, 2022 at Redmond Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations go to Sisters Habitat for Humanity and Hospice of Redmond or if you would like, plant a tree in his memory.
