Melvin Johnson was born April 28, 1953, to Mattie Johnson and Cecil Daniels in Temple, Texas. He grew up in Temple and graduated from Dunbar High School in Temple, Texas and later attended Community College in Aurora, Colorado. He united at an early age at Bethel I.M.E. in Temple, Texas. He served in the United States Army and was awarded numerous awards, ribbons and medals.

Melvin moved to Colorado in the late 70’s and became a member of Central Baptist Church and was very active in the church and sang in the choir. He furthered his education by attending community college of Denver and Aurora Community College.

Survivors are three sons, Quincy Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Michael Johnson and Markel Johnson of Aurora, Colorado; one daughter, LaQuanda Ellison of Aurora, Colorado; five grandchildren; six sisters, Alice Faye Bass Lomenic, Pearl Bennett, Lanell Boyer, Rae (Della) Burnley, and Ann Daniels all of Temple, Texas, and Gloria Means of Austin, Texas; and a host of relatives and friends.
