Norman W. Simpson

Norman W. Simpson, 94, of Valdosta, GA went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 28, 2017 after several years of declining health. He was born on December 5, 1922 to the late Walter and Marion Folsom Simpson. Mr. Simpson enlisted in the United States Navy in 1941 and was assigned to the "Milwaukee" and stationed in the south Atlantic until 1944. He retired after serving more than twenty years in the United States Navy achieving the rank of "Chief Gunner's Mate." Mr. Simpson loved the outdoors, guns and fishing. He was a faithful husband and father and a member and deacon of Westside Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of seventy one years, Dorothy Allbritton Simpson, his daughter and son in law, Norma Jean and Tim Johnson, his granddaughter, Heather Johnson, his sister, Marie Phelps all of Valdosta, many nieces and nephews and three special helpers, Faye Green, Jean Corbett and Dorothy Hope. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Corine Stone, Laura Newman and Dorothy Holton and brother, Charlene Simpson. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at two p. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Ernie Jones officiating. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from six until eight p. m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
