He returned to the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned a Ph.D. in Veterinary Pathology.

At one point, he was stationed in Seoul, South Korea, where he managed veterinary care for the canine units.

Donovan took great pride in his work as a veterinary pathologist, operating in the pharmaceutical industry. In his leisure time, he enjoyed visiting with friends & family, swimming, playing tennis, fishing, gardening and listening to music.
