Obituary for Denise A. Lacap

A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend is gone too soon! Denise Lacap, 65, of Providence, passed away at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence on October 14, 2022 following a series of heart health issues and related complications. Born in Providence on August 30, 1957, to the late Eugene Allen and Constance Hodges, she was a life-long and quite contented resident of the capitol city where she was educated, enjoyed a career in retail sales at the former Ames Department Store, and always made her home. She was a faithful parishioner at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church on Plainfield Street for many years.

An extremely generous and giving person, Denise was regarded by those who knew her and her family as “everybody’s mother”, always ready to provide a meal, lend a helping hand, and provide whatever assistance she could to help family, friends, and even strangers; such was her nature. Known for being responsible for many 'Marvin Gardens miracles', she was responsible for many acts of kindness to those within her community and circle of loved ones. She excelled in the kitchen, taking great pride in her cooking - mostly from scratch - and always with love; her home-made eggrolls and eggplant parm were among many favorites! While family was of paramount importance and always a priority for her, she also enjoyed trips to Twin River Casino (where she, at times, was also generous to her favorite machines!) and had an insatiable passion for watching horror films!

She was feisty, funny, and fun-loving, and as much a fashionista as she was a fisherwoman, once even catching a hammerhead shark, much to everyone’s shock and amazement! Despite many challenges, her spirit was a constant source of strength for her and her beloved family whom she profoundly influenced by her example as a true role model and matriarch!

Accepting, positive, and full of life, Denise will be sorely missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched, especially by her devoted daughters, Elizabeth Rodrigo, of Boston; Mindy (Rocky) Santiago, Yolanda (Sherice Cleckley), and Melinda Rodrigo, all of Providence; her grandchildren, Rico, Raquel, Javonte, Sebastian, Nicholas, Giovanni, Aaliyah, Liliana, Vincent, Jeremiah, Jazmine, and Jasin; her great grandchildren, Autumn, Aniasia, Jaydel, Brandon, and Ariella; and her siblings, Kenny (Jackie) Duffley and Angie (Tony) Gagnon, of Providence, and Jose (Charlie Hinsch) of Norfolk, VA. She is also survived by her dear friend (‘BFF’) Helen Haywood, of Providence; her faithful canine companion, Diva; and scores of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by three siblings, Debbie, Bobby, and Paula Duffley.

Denise’s life will be celebrated with visitation and services on Thursday afternoon, October 20th from 4:00 to 6:00p.m. at the Berarducci Home, corner of Grove & Knight Streets in the historic Federal Hill neighborhood of Providence; relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, and all guests are encouraged to wear something in Denise’s favorite lavender/purple color palate and to bring a smile and a memory to honor her.
