Robert Dean Smith

Robert Smith, age 91, of Ellsworth, IA, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard, IA.

Robert Dean Smith was born on February 27, 1931 on the home farm near Blairsburg, IA. He was one of five children born to Frank and Margaret (Maubach) Smith.

Bob grew up on the farm and attended country school thru the eighth grade.

On June 11, 1955 Bob was united in marriage to Arliss Cooper at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williams, IA. After their marriage, they spent their entire lives farming near Ellsworth and remained on the same farm for 67 years. He also operated a custom shelling, spraying and trucking business, as well as, selling seed corn and ag chemicals. Bob was passionate about farming and helping out neighbors and family whenever he could.

Bob served on the Ellsworth-Williams Coop Elevator Board and he was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williams.

Bob passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at the Hubbard Care Center where he had been a resident since February of 2021.

Those thankful for having shared his life include his wife Arliss of the Hubbard Care Center; a son Mike Smith and his wife Marjorie of Kellogg; a daughter Shari Henderson of Story City; four grandchildren Brady (Molly) Smith, Kylie (Zack) Rawlins, Clint (Laura) Henderson and Kelly Henderson; six great-grandchildren; one brother Harold (Cecilia) Smith of Dunlap; special neighbors Scott and Gail George & family; along with many other relatives and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister Bernice Brighton, twin sisters Lorene Butler and Leona Keane, and a son-in-law Dave Henderson.
