COX FUNERAL HOME

BASTROP, LOUISIANA



Funeral services honoring and celebrating the life of Mr. Lendal Johnston will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2022 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop with Bro. Jerry Stuckey officiating.   Committal services with military honors will follow at the Pine Grove South Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Homes. 


The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. until time for services on Monday, October 3rd, at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.


Lendal Johnston was born June 10, 1940 at Pineville, Louisiana.   He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on the morning of October 1, 2022 at the Northeast Louisiana Veteran's Home in Monroe, Louisiana.   Mr. Johnston is preceded in death by his parents, Claiborne "Tom" Johnston and Jessie Crain Johnston, and a son-in-law, Skip Leachman.


Mr. Johnston was a member of the Bonne Idee Assembly of God, a veteran of the United States Air Force, and retired maintenance supervisor with International Paper Company.  He was a Christian man devoted to his wife and family.   His children and grandchildren brought him much joy and he loved them all very much.   


Mr. Lendal is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Mimi Johnston,  his five children, Rick Johnston and his wife Vicky of Lake Charles, Louisiana,  Conway Boone and his wife Heather of Ruston, Louisiana, Sondra Finkbiener and her husband Karl of Brandon, Mississippi,  Angie Leachman, and Amelia Adams and her husband Curt of Sterlington, Louisiana.  He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren, Blake, Russell, Katy, Kyle, Katie, Madison, Abby, Corban, Legend, Travis, and Emarie; ten great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Peggy Wilson and her husband RD of Tullos, Louisiana, Donald L. Johnston and his wife Brenda, and Pat Taylor all of Bastrop, Louisiana.


Serving as Mr. Johnston's pallbearers are Travis Adams, Corban Rhodes, Legend Boone, Russell Branch, Paul Domino, and Layton Rainbolt.  


The family wishes to extend a special "thank-you" to Ms. Cheryl Burrell for her care, concern, and compassion given to "Papa" and all of the family during his illness.  Also, many thanks to the nurses and staff at the Northeast Louisiana Veteran's Home for their attentive care.
