Mrs. Betty Sue Hendrix Link, age 88, of Wilkesboro, NC, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Villages of Wilkes in North Wilkesboro, NC. Mrs. Link donated her body to the School of Medicine at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This final, loving gift was in honor of her grandson, Patrick Link, MD, who graduated from the UNC School of Medicine. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Sunday October 22, 2017 at 4:00 PM in the Sanctuary at First United Methodist Church in North Wilkesboro, NC, with Rev. Terry Matthews officiating. Mrs. Link was born January 14, 1929 in Hickory, NC to Claude Columbus and Addie Belle Crisp Hendrix. She was an honor graduate of Granite Falls High School, receiving the Salutatorian award. Her early years were spent as a loving wife and mother, serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother, Baseball Mom, Girl Scout Cookie Coordinator, PTA Vice President, etc. Mrs. Link’s business career began in 1967 at Northwestern Bank, where she served as the bank’s stock transfer officer for twenty years. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church for over 60 years, where she served in many capacities. Her support of the church was highlighted by her membership in the Fellowship Sunday School Class, the Franklin-Gardner Circle, the Prayer Team, and as a volunteer in the church office. She was extremely proud of serving the church as the chair of the Card Ministry, which she founded in 2006. Mrs. Link was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edwin Link; two sisters; Gladys Bolch and Jean Hewitt; and three brothers, Bud Hendrix, Dick Hendrix and Bill Hendrix. Mrs. Link is survived by a daughter, Lorrie Link Lane and husband, Bryan of Raleigh; two sons; Edwin A. Link and wife, Jane of North Myrtle Beach, SC; and Keith F. Link of North Wilkesboro. Six grandchildren survive her: Patrick E. Link, Benjamin E. Link, Christopher A. Link, Krystin P. Lane, Kelsey A. Lane, and Spencer B. Lane. Four great grandchildren also survive her: Connor M. Link, Dawson A. Link; Beckett A. Link and Fiona S. Link. Memorials can be made to the Betty Link Memorial Fund at First United Methodist Church (P.O. Box 1145, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659).
