Mary Elizabeth Craig-Oatley Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Craig-Oatley, 64, passed away on April 27, 2022 in Ormond Beach, Florida. She was born on August 12, 1957, in Wichita, Kansas.


Mary Beth graduated from Mulvane High School in 1975 and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from University of Kansas in 1979. She also earned her Master’s degree in Human Resource Education from Boston University in 1992 via an overseas program while she was serving as an Occupational Therapist at the U.S. Army Hospital in Heidelberg, Germany from 1985 to 1991. Mary Beth moved to the Daytona Beach area in 1992 and became the Program Manager of the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at Daytona State College in 2007, where she served up to her passing.


Mary Beth was involved in multiple volunteer efforts for the First United Methodist Church in Ormond Beach, including Caregiver’s Day Out, a program for taking care of disabled individuals while their usual caregivers enjoyed a break. She also participated in multiple advocacy groups for disabled individuals, such as Disability Solutions for Independent Living (DSIL) and Handivangelism’s Handi-Camp for disabled summer campers.


Mary Beth was preceded in death by her father Leonard Younger Craig in 1968 and her mother Hazel Molzen Craig in 2002.


She is survived by her loving husband Jeff Oatley, her sons Jake and Sam Oatley, her siblings Geraldine, Harry and Larry Craig, her brother-in-law Owen Oatley, and multiple cousins.


The memorial service will be held on Oct. 3rd at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church of Mulvane, 107 S Central Ave, Mulvane, Kansas. This service will also be livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/MulvaneUMC/. This will be followed immediately by a light lunch, then a graveside service at the Mulvane Cemetery.
