Eugene Godfrey Matthews

<p>Eugene Godfrey Matthews, was born in Wilmington, Delaware on March 15, 1948, to the late Marion M. Clifton and William M. Anderson. He departed September 25, 2022. </p><p><br></p><p>Eugene attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School in 1954. He also attended P. S. DuPont. </p><p><br></p><p>Eugene was employed at DuPont Environmental Station and retired in 2005. </p><p><br></p><p>Eugene loved to work on cars and helped anyone he could, even if you were a stranger on the side of the road. He taught children how to work on their bikes in the neighborhood. If he could help you, he would, no matter his own circumstances. He also enjoyed the oldies and spiritual music. </p><p><br></p><p>Eugene loved to tell jokes to make you laugh. He was a fun-loving husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. </p><p><br></p><p>In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by his daughter, Latonya Lopez; brothers, Avon Matthews and Peyton Spencer; and baby sister, Marion “Fe-Fe” Spencer. </p><p><br></p><p>Eugene is survived by his loving wife and care taker of 46 years, Anna B. Matthews; children from eldest, Eugenia Matthews-Lopez, Eugene Pennewell (Jr.), Matthew Pennewell, Tomika Purnell, to baby girl, Dominique Matthews; four brothers, William Anderson, Brian Matthews, Martin Spencer and Craig Spencer; sister, Bernadette Spencer; and a host of grands, great grands, nieces, nephews and cousins.</p><p><br></p><p>A big thank you to Mr. Clint and Mrs. Teresa Thomas, for their generosity and love to our family!</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p>

Eugene Godfrey Matthews, was born in Wilmington, Delaware on March 15, 1948, to the late Marion M. Clifton and William M. Anderson. He departed September 25, 2022.


Eugene attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School in 1954. He also attended P. S. DuPont.
