Catherine Towler Gibson, age 91 of Chatham, VA. passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Gibson was born October 16, 1930, in Pittsylvania County to the late Percy G. Towler and the late Irene Bowen Towler. She was married to the late Harry Ray Gibson, who predeceased her in 2020.

A lifelong member of Greenpond Baptist Church, Catherine taught Sunday School and was a member of the choir. She was a retired school teacher having spent over 30 years at Climax Elementary. She received a Bachelors of Education from Westhampton College and a Masters of Education from Lynchburg College. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and she will always be remembered as a kind and loving mother, grandmother, friend to all who knew her, and a great cook.

She is survived by two sons; Rev. Steven Ray Gibson (Jane R.) and Troy Keith Gibson (Devie S.), one daughter; Tami Lynne Morris (Kenny D.), three grandchildren; Noah Jacob Gibson (Kari), Amelia Lauren Gibson (Alex), and Kerry Gibson Shelton, three great-grandchildren; Nicholas Scott Shelton, Jr., Henry Jacob Gibson and Claire Ruth Gibson, and one sister; Helen Elizabeth Towler.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by one daughter; Sheene Dawn Gibson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 1, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at Greenpond Baptist Church with Rev. Steven Ray Gibson officiating. Burial will follow the funeral services at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
