Mr. Leon Simmons Moore Obituary

Roanoke Rapids, NC

Mr. Leon Moore,63, of Garysburg, North Carolina transitioned on September 26, 2022. Leon was born on January 17, 1959, in Occoneechee, North Carolina to the late Raymond and the late Ethel Mae Simmons-Moore, later moving to Seaboard, North Carolina.

He received his education from the Northampton County Public School System. After graduating from Gumberry High School, he joined the United States Army where he served a five-year term as a Radio Operator. During his enlistment, Leon traveled to Germany. While serving, he took an interest in boxing and honing his boxing skills. He competed with other elite boxers, earning many awards and trophies. After his time in the Army, Leon worked for Blast Off, a chemical plant in Seaboard, North Carolina until retiring.

Leon also spent a lot of time reading his Bible along with other material. He attended Hill Chapel Baptist Church before moving to Piney Grove Baptist Church.

Leon was extremely quiet and he liked to be to himself, however, you always felt his presence in any room he entered. He was kind to everyone he encountered. He would show up and support, even when you didn’t expect him. Leon loved fixing up and working on cars. He would buy them, fix them up and could talk about the ins and out of them all day and night. He was one of the coolest people you would ever meet. He loved a good meal and family gatherings. When in his presence, you were guaranteed to leave with some nuggets of wisdom.

Leon was predeceased by his parents: Raymond and Ethel Moore; his brothers: George Moore, Glenn Moore, Eddie Jones and Leander Moore; and his sisters: Ruth Moore-Branch, Levoria Moore and Linda Moore.

Leon’s life and memory are cherished by his siblings: James (Mattie) Moore of Jackson, NC, Lenoria (George) Moore of Baltimore, MD, Raymond Moore of Pasadena, CA, Ledoria Moore of Greensville, NC, Eulalia Jones-Stiles of Portsmouth, VA, Stephanie Moore of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Stephen Lee Moore of Baltimore, MD and two more sisters, one of Rich Square, NC and one of Seaboard, NC; a special nephew: Waddell (Jackie) Moore of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
