<p>Bessie Edna McDonald Hill, 89, of Yulee, FL, formerly of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Monday, September 26, 2022.</p><p><br></p><p>A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Hedges Baptist Church with Lance Ruis and Dwayne Gillis officiating.</p><p><br></p><p>Lunch will be served in the fellowship hall for family and friends immediately following the service. Online visitors may sign the guest register at Green Pine Funeral Home https://www.greenpinefuneral.com/.</p><p><br></p><p>Bessie Edna McDonald was born April 20, 1933, in Coffee County the daughter of Elisha &amp; Annie McDonald. First, she was a child of God, a loving wife, mother of five, and a friend to many. She learned the importance of hard work and spent her life doing for others. Bessie was a graduate of Coffee County High School where she served as state president for DCT. Later she served her community as a member of the Pilot Club. Bessie was a bookkeeper by trade and Baptist by faith.</p><p><br></p><p>Known as the neighborhood Kool-Aid mom, Bessie was the best at coaxing children into working. In fact, she joked of continually giving orders right until her last days. For years, every Christmas Eve the children gathered and baked and created gifts to share with ten people. (Most of the fun came in deciding on the ten recipients.) She loved to sew and was known to burn the midnight oil putting together a prom dress or special outfit for one of her girls. Yard sales and estate sales drew her in like a magnet with treasures waiting to be purchased. After retirement, she nurtured children in her home until the ripe old age of 80. At 81 she was asked how she filled her time. Her response, “I sit with the elderly.” Bessie’s children and grandchildren were always the joy of her heart. As her sight grew dim, her great-grandchildren served as reminders of “every good and wonderful gift” bestowed upon her was from the Lord.</p><p><br></p><p>Survivors include her children, Sharon Hill, Donny Hill, Susie &amp; Robby Barnard, and Janet &amp; Eddie Ruis; her grandchildren, Ashley Hill, Trey &amp; Jami Barnard, Mandy &amp; Scott Stanley, Luke Barnard, Brad Ruis, Lance &amp; Savanna Ruis, Becky &amp; Joel Workman, Steven &amp; Ellie Ruis, Don &amp; Alli Hill, Chad Hill, Shane &amp; Casey Powell, Tara Breeden, Tim Breeden, and Wynona Breeden; and her thirteen great-grandchildren, Magnolia, Ryan, Kenzie, Emma Kate, Annleigh, Max, Scottie, Evelyn, Josiah, Brody, Aubrey, Ava, and Noah. Bessie was the last living child of Elisha &amp; Annie McDonald. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Breeden, her parents and siblings.</p>

Bessie was the last living child of Elisha & Annie McDonald. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Breeden, her parents and siblings.
