William Paul Powell, Jr.

<p>William Paul Powell, Jr. of Surf City, NC passed from his earthly life on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 while at home.&nbsp; Born on June 27, 1947, he is the son of the late William Paul Powell, Sr. and Dollie Mae Duff Powell of Lenoir County.&nbsp; </p><p>Left to cherish his memory are several cousins—Kay Powell Bradsher, Teresa Powell Watts, Mary Ann Lee, Irene Huggins, Larry Lee, Wendell Lee, Allan Lee, Steven Carl Crouch, Michael Dean Crouch, Beth Bullard Williamson, Laura Bullard Arthur, and George C. Potter; special friends—Steve Hanchey, Jeff and Sue Connerly, and Elbert Elrod; and his many church friends. </p><p>Mr. Powell was born and raised in Lenoir and Duplin Countys and served a tour of duty in the United States Army during 1968 to 1970 in Vietnam.&nbsp; He then attended Miller Motte Business School where he received a degree in accounting.&nbsp; He retired from the Department of the Navy as a civil service employee in Camp Lejeune, NC.&nbsp; As a volunteer of the Surf City EMS, he served the town for twenty-two years and also volunteered in the NHRMC Outpatient Surgical Pavilion.&nbsp; He served as a notary public for Pender County for many years.&nbsp; For the enhancement of his spiritual life, he attended the Chapel&nbsp;Bay Church in Surf City where he sang in the choir and served as treasurer. </p><p>A service to celebrate his life is set for Monday, September 19,2022, at 2:00 pm,&nbsp;at&nbsp;Chapel&nbsp;Bay Church,&nbsp;in Surf City with interment in the Riverview Memorial Cemetery in Watha, NC.&nbsp; Rather than&nbsp;floral gifts, please consider a contribution to his church: Chapel&nbsp;Bay&nbsp;Church, 216 Michigan Ave.&nbsp;Surf City, NC 28445 or the Gideons bible program.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </p>
