George Klein, age 84, of Sheldon, Iowa who passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. His funeral mass will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, September 16, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ashton with Father Tim Hogan ~ officiating.

Burial will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Ashton.

Visitation with family present will be from 4 – 7 P.M. on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon to the George & Cleo Klein Fund.

The Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

     George Klein, the son of Henry and Julia (Beck) Klein was born February 13, 1938, in Hospers, Iowa. He received his education through the 9th grade and later completed his GED through NCC in 2012. George was united in marriage to Cleo Berning on April 24, 1963 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton. The couple remained in Ashton and began a farming operation. Later in life, George and Cleo sold the farm operation and George began a career as a realtor and appraiser. The couple moved to Sheldon in July of 2015. Cleo preceded George in death in 2016 and George remained in Sheldon, until his passing on September 7, 2022, reaching the age of 84 years, 6 months, and 24 days.

     George was a member of the Ashton community where he held roles at his church, the local Catholic School, and cooperative boards. After moving to Sheldon, he was active with the Prairie Queen Kiwanis, and Love Inc. George went out of his way to do good for others. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them and going to various events.

     Left to cherish his memory are his children, son Tim (Bev) Klein, of Wells, MN, with grandchildren, Jamie (Charles) Packard with Maeve & Reuben, Eric (Catherine) Klein with Lucy, Nicole Klein, Brian Klein, and Amber (Kyle) Loecker with Greta; daughter Reine Klein of Wells. MN; son Denis Klein of South Lake, TX, with grandchildren, Zachery (Emily) Klein, Cameron Klein, Frances Klein and Nicholas Klein; daughter Denise (Scott) Parry of LeMars, IA with grandchildren, Rachel Parry and Emma Parry; son Ray (Jennifer) Klein, of Ames, IA with grandchildren, Ben Klein and Katherine Klein; daughter Janelle (Jay) Alberts of Chagrin Falls, OH, with grandchildren, Abby Alberts and Grant Alberts; and son Jarett (Kelly) Klein of St. Paul, MN with grandchildren, Cooper Klein, Natalie Klein, and Stella Klein, along with relatives and friends.

     George was preceded in death by his wife Cleo, daughter (in infancy) Joyce, parents Henry and Julia, and siblings, Paul Klein, Dorthea Breuer and (in infancy) James and Margaret Klein.
