Marlene Claire Friedrich Obituary

Marlene C. Friedrich, age 86, of Murphysboro, passed away at 2:44 a.m. Sunday, August 28, 2022, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital of Jackson County in Murphysboro.

She was born on March 14, 1936, in Montpelier, Iowa, to Roy and Ella (Lange) Drumm.

She married Rev. William E. Friedrich on June 19, 1955, in Davenport, Iowa and enjoyed being a pastor’s wife in Niagara, ND, East Moline, IL, and Murphysboro, IL. Pastor Friedrich preceded her in death on March 11, 2006.

She is survived by five children; Rachel Silvers of Chatsworth, GA, Timothy (Vicki) Friedrich of Sterling, IL, Eunice (Duane) Zajic of Seward, NE, Esther (David) Cashion of Colona, IL and John Friedrich of Murphysboro, IL; twelve grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law Rev. Henry Friedrich, Algona, IA, Rev. Robert Friedrich of Willmar, MN, Christine Fiechtl of Bottineau, ND, and Arlene Rhoades of rural Davenport, IA; several cousins, and several nieces and nephews.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter Beverly Hope Silvers; three brothers Merlin Drumm, Lee Drumm and Marvin Drumm; two brothers-in-law Orville Kressin and Rev. Martin Friedrich; five sisters-in-law Caroline Kressin, Ruth Friedrich, Janeth Jones, Irene Friedrich, Evelyn Friedrich, and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Matthew Christian officiating and burial at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2022, at Pettett Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Our family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the family of Steve and Katie Baskin and to Mike Shands, next-door neighbors to Mom, for the countless hours of help and tender loving care they gave our mother.
