Verla Mae Harvey

Verla Mae (Roy) Harvey was born November 10, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri a daughter to the late John Alec Roy and Delphia Pender. Verla departed this life Tuesday, August 23, 2022 having reached the age of 93 years, 9 months and 13 days. <br>Verla is survived by her grandson Jeremy Todd and wife Becca; great granddaughter, Eleanor Harvey and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. <br>On November 29, 1947 Verla was united in marriage to the late Clinton Monroe Harvey, Sr. and they shared 67 years of marriage together and were blessed with a son, the late, Clinton Monroe Harvey Jr.<br> In addition to her parents, husband and son, Verla was preceded in death by her brothers, Gerald Roy, Robert “Bob” Roy and sisters, Wilda Cross and Rose Mary Simpson. <br> Verla lost her mother at the age of 7 then moved to Potosi. She and her siblings were raised by her grandparents, Matilda and Isaac Roy. She lived on the family farm until the age of 19. The farm was bought by her grandparents on July 15, 1931 then their daughter and son – in-law, Clara and Jim Bingham. The farm is still in the family, currently owned by Willis and Rose Mary Simpson’s son, John Simpson. Sadly, the old farm house burned in May of 2016 which had the original log room built in 1804. Other rooms were added on throughout the years.<br> Verla loved to garden grow all kinds of flowers and she also loved to sew. She was saved at a young age at the Breton Creek Church. She said her relationship with Jesus is what kept her going all these years. God was her comfort and joy. She had a great memory. She could tell you things about growing up on the farm. She could remember everyone’s name and loved talking about history. One of her greatest joys was her grandson Jeremy Harvey and his wife Becca and, just recently, her great granddaughter Nella Mae. She loved singing old hymns. When she was house bound, she looked forward to family and friends calling or coming to see her. She will be greatly missed by all of us that loved her. <br>
