Vietnam Veteran, Douglas Wayne Fischer, 74 of Paragon, Indiana, entered eternal rest at 4:50 pm on Thursday, August 11, 2022, while in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his family. Doug’s life began on Wednesday, May 12th, 1948, in Evansville, Indiana. He was the oldest of two children born to the late James Douglas and Joyce Ann (Rose) Fischer. Doug graduated from North High School in Evansville, Indiana, with the class of 1966. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the US Army. He served his country with bravery for nearly ten years, including two tours to Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on January 28, 1975, earning the rank of a Staff Sergeant. During his time of enlistment, he married Shirley Ann (Ferguson) Fischer on February 10, 1967; she preceded him in death on July 12, 2014. He spent most of his working life as a truck driver and retired from Duke Energy after years of dedicated employment. Retirement awarded him an opportunity to enjoy many of the things he loved such as, NASCAR, time with family, cold beer and his pets. He is survived by a loving family who will miss him dearly including his son, Vincent Douglas Fischer of Paragon; daughter and son-in-law, Kelley and Chris Bradshaw of Paragon; sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Bryant Taylor of Evansville; two grandchildren, Natalie Branham of North Salem, IN, and Zachary Fischer of Lizton, IN; and one great granddaughter. Doug’s family has honored his final wishes for cremation and no public services. His final arrangements have been entrusted to Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville.
