Obituary

With family by her side, June Louise Mills, daughter of Charles “Charlie” and Cynthia Flanders, went home to be with the Lord on August 4th, 2022; she was 93.

June was a long time Portsmouth, NH resident.  Born in Ashland NH, she graduated High School in Ashland in 1947 and graduated Plymouth Teacher’s College in 1951 earning a Bachelor’s Degree.

June married her High School sweetheart, Lowell J Mills, Jr (AKA John, Sarge, Bubba) MSGT US Armed Forces, and spent many years teaching 1st & 2nd grade on US Military bases:   Anchorage Alaska; Manheim, Germany; Ft.Devens, MA; Pease AFB and Portsmouth School system.   She loved to travel and visited as many German castles as she could, as well as Berlin (east and west), the Black Forest, Paris FR, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.  She loved her school children and retired after 41 years of service.   June’s husband retired after 22 years of military service and they spent many winters in FL, on Madeira Beach where their daughter resided.   When not in FL or Portsmouth, they loved to spend time at their summer camp on Lake Winona, swimming, fishing, and enjoying friends and family.   June delighted in all of nature, plants, flowers, and any creature that flew, walked, burrowed or swam. She would profess that “God has a great sense of humor,” when she watched NOVA and Blue Planet.

June was a member of the Church at Spruce Creek and spent many years as the Church Historian and an integral member of the Prayer Chain, “Prayer moves mountains, “she would firmly state.  She had an immoveable faith and the grace of a thousand Angels.  She was a 5’2” black haired, brown eyed prayer warrior; beautiful on the inside and outside with a heart of pure gold.

June is now reunited with her husband of 62 years; Mr. Mills entered Heaven in 2018 and she missed him dearly.  She leaves her son, Dale A Mills of N.Hampton (formerly CO) and her daughter, Gale E Mills of Portsmouth (formerly FL) and her adopted family Michael and Patricia (Yergeau) Royer of FL (formerly Portsmouth) and four grandchildren: Dale and Shane Mills of Colorado Springs, CO. and Christopher Royer (Jacksonville, FL) and Angela (Royer) Stone of Parish, FL.

June will be sorely missed by those that knew and loved her, although there is a huge void now, we rejoice that she is with her Lord and Savior and is walking the streets of gold, reunited with her heavenly family and friends.    June requested a small graveside service where her earthly body will rest alongside her mother, father, and husband in Ashland, NH.  Services provided at a future date by Dupuis Funeral Home in Ashland.

June’s favored charities were “SmileTrain.org” and “SamaritiansPurse.org” - donations to either, in her memory, would be most welcomed and appreciated; and June would say, “you’ve earned a jewel in your crown.”
