Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Husband, Dad and Gedo on July 26, 2022 at age 82.

Left to mourn his passing, his loving wife Helen of 59 years, daughters, Valerie (Brian), Bonnie (Scott), grand-daughters, Amanda, Candace, Amber and Megan, sister-in-law Betty, and nieces and nephews. Max was born November 5, 1939 in Tenby, Manitoba to Hattie and Dmytro.

He attended Luicina School later moving to Plumas attending East Tupper then Plumas High School. After graduating, he moved to Winnipeg for his first job at Eaton’s Mail Order then Gulf Station across from CN station and Ideal Brass. He attended college for diesel mechanics then purchased Pacific 66 Gas Station on McPhillips. After selling the garage, he worked for Alpine Messenger for 6 years and King’s Electric for 28 years till 1999. While working at Kings, he worked for Winnipeg Enterprises both at the arena and stadium for 19 years. Still not ready to retire, he got a job at McPhillips Street Station Casino where he worked till he was 65.

Dad met mom at a Valentine’s Dance in Winnipeg and they were married on July 20, 1963. They made their home in Winnipeg raising their two daughters. Dad continued to help on the family farm making many trips to Plumas to help his parents. He loved the outdoors starting out camping with a pull trailer and boat. Later getting a seasonal site at the Oasis where he made many lifelong friends who later all moved to Auglen Park in Lac Du Bonnet helping each other build their cottages. Here he enjoyed many years gardening, fishing, playing cards, darts, horse shoes, visiting friends and having dances. Dad always loved to plan a summer holiday with the family visiting all over Canada and USA.

While working at the arena, Dad made many friends that Mom and Dad went to Vegas with for over 14 years. Dad loved sports, he curled for 10 years at Thistle and Elmwood curling clubs. He played on the Winnipeg Enterprises baseball team. Dad bowled with Mom in a league for over 12 years. He coached Bonnie’s baseball and soccer teams. He loved attending hockey, football, baseball games and wrestling otherwise sitting in his recliner watching any sports would be where you would find him. Later Dad took on a new line of work, babysitting his granddaughters with Mom and “Gedo’s taxi services”. Gedo was their biggest fan cheering them on in all their activities and so proud of their accomplishments.

In their later years, Dad loved to drive to South Beach, visit the mall, and go anywhere the road took them. The last three years took a toll on Dad, the restrictions kept them from doing the things he loved and his health was failing him. He no longer had the freedom he once had and has left for a better place.

Dad was predeceased by his parents, Hattie and Dmytro, sister Mary(Mike) and in-laws Paul and Mary, Orest(Marge) and Ed along with many family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Seasons Funeral Chapel in Oakbank on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at 11:00am with Father Chorney officiating.
