Arlene Adaline Selsaas Obituary

Arlene Adaline Selsaas died on August 9, 2022, at the age of 97. Arlene Kleppe was born at home in Adrian Minnesota on February 25, 1925. She was baptized in Adrian, Mn at Zion Lutheran church on August 13, 1925 she grew up in Adrian and Ray, Minnesota. She went to school through the 8th grade and then stayed home to work on her parents farm and helped raise her siblings. She married Norman Selsaas on February 25, 1948, in Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls, MN. They were married 52 years when Norman died at the age of 79. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sarah circle, Moose Club, Tops Club, Rainy Lake Women and Eastern Star. She worked at Anderson Furniture Store, F.W. Woolworth, Mando Paper Company and the U.S Post office in Ranier, Mn. She was known for her wonderful pies and brownies (always with a corner missing) and her potato salads. Wherever she was invited she would bring something to eat, even if it did not go with the meal. You never went hungry at her house or cabin. She was a wonderful cook, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved knowing what everyone was doing and to be involved. She loved picking blueberries, and telling everyone who was with her to “sit here and pick this patch clean”. Sandy and Allen never mastered that art. She loved fishing at their cabin on Blueberry Island and in Canada. She loved her animals and the grandchildren’s animals, including their dogs, cats, goats, ducks, chickens, turkeys and even the pig. She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Martha Kleppe, husband, Norman, Son, Allen Norman , Granddaughter, Heather Amanda Ness, siblings, Clarence, Lorraine, Thelma and Edward(Jo) Kleppe, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chick and Edith Sandstrom . She is survived by her children, Sandra (Richard) LaVigne, Teresa (Bruce) Ness and daughter in law, Carol Selsaas, grandchildren, Heidi (Tim) Wegner Jacques (Kylee) LaVigne, Cedulie (Dave) Lloyd and Calvin (Megan) Selsaas and great grandchildren Walker and Grace Wegner, Chelesa, Bailea, and Cooper LaVigne, great grandchildren Pyke and Niya Lloyd, and great-great granchildre Cashious, Kaious and Leington and numerous nieces and nephews. Thank you to the Good Samaritan and Rainy Lake Medical center for her excellent care the last 5 years. A special thank you to her dear friend at the nursing home, Judy. She would prefer memorials to Zion Lutheran Church.
