<p>Rodney G. Whittaker, 72</p><p><br></p><p>Rodney Whittaker passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Marion Hospital from a long illness. Rodney was born February 18, 1950, in Warren, Ohio, to George and Elberta (Patrick) Whittaker.</p><p><br></p><p>Rodney proudly served his country by enlisting in the Army and serving in Vietnam. He served as a Medic among other duties. Rodney received many awards including a National Defense Medal; Parachutist Badge; 2 Oversea Bars; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Sharpshooter Badge and Combat Medical Badge.</p><p><br></p><p>After Rodney was discharged from the Army, he spent many of the following years in Flagstaff, Arizona, returning to Ohio and residing in Richland County the past seven years to be closer to family. Rodney was a very successful businessman, owning his own construction company. He liked being his own boss and being in control of his own destiny.</p><p><br></p><p>The great outdoors was his happy place. He loved to hunt and fish and took it very seriously owning all the necessary equipment. He once went deep sea fishing in Baja and caught a marlin.</p><p><br></p><p>While Rodney never married, he is survived by his two children, his fur babies, Scooter and Pumpkin; five sisters, Joyce Warren (Larry) of Ashland, Janine Whittaker and Judy Wickham both of Mansfield, JoAnn (Tom) Rye and Jaclyn (Richard) Almeda of Mesa, Arizona; and two brothers, Paul (Leslie) Whittaker of Snowflake, Arizona and Michael Whittaker of California.</p><p><br></p><p>Rodney was preceded in death by his parents.</p><p><br></p><p>A service with full military honors is being planned for a later date at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio.</p><p><br></p><p>Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Rodney G.
