Nancy S. Richard Obituary

SPRINGFIELD CENTER/CLINTON - Nancy Strait Richard, 82, of Clinton rose to heaven on Saturday, August 6, 2022. She was born August 1, 1940 in Herkimer, a daughter of the late Donald and Anna (Barr) Strait. She leaves behind her children; Don (Lynne) Macrina of Sauquoit, Ann Macrina of Bellefonte, PA, and Jill (Jim) Daly of Latham; her beloved grandchildren, Katelyn (Matt) Davison, Victoria Magliaro, Sam Magliaro, Carlene (John) O’Connor, Steven Macrina, and many cousins. In addition to her family, she leaves behind some lifelong friends from King Street, Herkimer and many dear friends in the Richfield Springs / Cooperstown area. Nancy’s brothers, James Strait and Jack Strait preceded her in death. Nancy grew up on King Street in Herkimer, and graduated from Herkimer High School in 1958. She attended nursing school and earned an associate degree from Mohawk Valley Community College and a bachelor degree in nursing from SUNY Institute of Technology. She worked at Bassett Hospital for over 25 years, first on the medical/surgical floor and then as a nurse educator. Nancy enjoyed quilting, knitting, and crocheting. In addition to devoting her time making her family many beautiful quilts, sleep pants, placemats and potholders, she also crafted quilts, blankets, and hats for those in need. Her frequent donations made their way to patients with cancer, children in scary situations, those using wheelchairs, and others who needed the warm embrace of a gift made with love. She gave these selflessly, simply because she wanted to help people. In addition to helping people, Nancy also loved helping animals. She adored her own pets that were her constant companions and donated to organizations to save others. Donations in memory of her generous nature can be made to Best Friends Animal Society https://bestfriends.org/ or your local animal shelter. Most of all, Nancy was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved her children without bounds, and she adored her grandchildren. She also had a special friendship with her daughter-in-law whom she always treated as a daughter. A memorial service will take place at the Autenrith Funeral Home, 7479 Main Street, Newport, on Thursday, August 11th, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Walter Tomasik of the First Baptist Church of Newport, officiating. Inurnment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Garden Cemetery. A calling hour will take place prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
