Tom Need, age 68, of Thurman, IA died Sunday, August 7, 2022 at his home following an extended illness. Tom was born May 1, 1954 in Garden City, KS to Paull Edward Need and Rachel Adell (Bentz) Need. On August 1, 1981, he was married to Gail Briggs at Garden City, KS. Tom was a truck driver, propane delivery and maintenance worker for several different Health Care Systems over the years. He was a member of the Thurman United Methodist Church. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Alan Briggs. He is survived by his wife, Gail Need of Thurman, IA; daughter, Ruth Need of Boulder, CO; son, Dave Need and wife Kate of Bellevue, NE; 2 grandchildren, Jack and Henry Need; sister, Debra Noel and husband Kevin of Sanford, NC; brother, Steve Need and wife Lorretta of Greensboro, GA; 3 sisters-in-law, Pat Briggs of Sidney, IA, Janet Lemrick and husband Tim of Sidney, and Nancy Mutchler and husband Carl of Pleasant Hill, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at the Thurman United Methodist Church with Rev. Jan Phillips officiating. Visitation will be open after 6:00 PM Tuesday with the family greeting friends from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials will go to the Thurman United Methodist Church or the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Interment will be in the Sidney, IA Cemetery. The Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA is in charge of arrangements.
