Charles Lavon Choate Obituary

Charles Lavon Choate of Claremore, passed away from this life on August 7, 2022. Charles was born May 17, 1931, in Sapulpa, OK to Charles and Barbara Choate.

For the most part of his life, Charles was raised in Gore, OK where he graduated from high school and immediately entered the military through the Naval services to serve his country in the Korean War.

Charles returned home from the military and met the love of his life, Maudine Cochran. Charles knew immediately that the blind date arranged by his cousin would result in marriage. His persistence in asking for Maudine's hand in marriage began during the very first date and every time thereafter until she said "Yes." Three months later in 1955, their blind date turned into Mr. And Mrs. Charles Choate which lasted forever until his passing.

Charles was known to be a quiet and very reserved man, with a huge heart that loved much. He was known to be a "strong man" in every way. Charles was strong in his work ethic and physical stature as well. He was partial to his grandchildren, taking them with him everywhere he went. He would be hauling Michlea around as she could keep up or by taking Justin off to the sale barn to make a little extra money by riding the horses in the arena to show. Other folks who knew Charles called him "Smiley" because he was always sharing his sweet smile with the world around him.

Charles worked at McDonnell Douglas in addition to attending his cattle ranch for sixty plus years.

Charles was loved and respected by all who knew and loved him and will be missed from this life.

Charles is preceded in death by his father and mother Charles and Blanche Choate, infant daughter Julia Denise Choate, and his siblings Raymond Choate, Cornelia Johnson, Gladys Smith, and Mary Ellis.

Charles is survived by wife Maudine Choate, daughter Barbara Smith, sons Leonard and Paul Choate, granddaughter Michlea Eaton, grandson Justin Smith, great-grandchildren Garrett Eaton, Dalton Eaton, Nate Eaton, Holden Eaton, Mya Smith, and Caleb Smith.

Viewing is scheduled for Thursday August 11, 2022, between the hours of 10:00AM-1:00PM with funeral service to follow at 2:00PM at Rice Funeral Service, Claremore, OK. Burial will follow immediately at Woodlawn Cemetery, Claremore, OK.
