Georgia E. Johnson Obituary

Mrs. Georgia Ella Jones Johnson affectionately known as “Mikki”, widow of Charlie “Boy” Johnson, passed away at the age of 85 peacefully in her home, Saturday, August 6, 2022 after a long bout with Dementia (Alzheimer’s disease). She was born September 11, 1936, to the late Jack Jones and Fannie Jones Gallman. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Alice W. Smith, Elizabeth Williams, Etta Jones and brother, Wallace Gallman, Jr. She leaves to cherish many memories: her

siblings, Edna Jones Taylor (Ohio), James Gallman, Sr. (Betty), Ada Gallman (Wallace); daughters Willie Alma Jones Finnie (William), Deloris Johnson Mitchell (Christopher) of Queens, NY; grandchildren, Oliver, Joseph, Eva Finnie and Travis Johnson; great-grandchildren, Jonae, Josiah, Jette, Aspen; a host of nephews, nieces, other dear relatives and friends who will miss her deeply. Mikki was baptized at an early age at Friendship Baptist Church and was a choir member for many years. She attended faithfully until she was no longer able to continue her short walk over to services from her home. Mikki earned her diploma through the evening adult education program at Martha Schofield High School in 1968. In early adulthood during the month of June, she would make the yearly pilgrimage to the Schofield Alumni Ball in Jamaica, NY. She would also visit her beloved sister Liz while in NY. She married at a young age and lived in the state of Hawaii with her first husband, Isaias Larry Maderia, then was later stationed with him in Oklahoma. She traveled to Europe with her sister Etta Jones, jazz vocalist, while on tour. She loved fishing and later, after she and Boy married, she’d accompany him out on the boat which he named after her. She supported her brother, James and was a lifetime member of the NAACP and regular participant in the Ambassador’s Bid

Whist Tournament. She was a domestic supervisor for northerners’ estates during the summer months. Mrs. Johnson worked 15 years out at Kimberly-Clark, and retired from the Aiken County Public Schools system as a transportation specialist in 1999.

Her love of bingo became an entrepreneurial venture by providing transportation for others to Bingo halls locally and regionally including Augusta, Ga., North Augusta, SC, Cherokee NC, Florence, SC, and even as far as Alabama. She would stay up all night with her daughter and grands eating, laughing, and playing bid whist after she got home from bingo. Ms. Mikki also provided housing for local transient workers and members of the community who were in need of a place to stay. Somehow, she managed to turn her hobbies and good deeds into lucrative blessings all around. Many will remember her eclectic collection of elephants, her sassiness, her selective choice of words, the school bus parked in the yard, the blue 15-seat passenger van, and the no nonsense landlady. Mrs. Georgia Ella Johnson, most commonly known as Mikki, will surely be missed!
