Albert P Maitner , Jr. Obituary

Burlington - Albert Paul Maitner Jr. passed away on July 30, 2022 at UVM Medical Center at the age of 85. Al had recently been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. The speed at which his decline happened was a great surprise to his family.

Born on September 29, 1936 in Bronx, NYC to Albert Paul Maitner Sr and Anne Stephanie (Varjan) Maitner. Predeceased by his first born son; Eric John Maitner, and predeceased by his brother; Robert Lee Maitner Sr, and his sister; Jeanne Mary (Maitner) Salvador.

Survived by his sons Martin Thomas Maitner and Mark Steven Maitner from his second marriage with Geraldine (Kuntz) Maitner, and father in law to Ying Hu. Survived by Elizabeth (Maitner) Long from his first marriage to Penny (Pleister) Maitner.

Loving grandfather to Aiden Husong Maitner, Jacqueline Elizabeth Maitner, Devin Long, and Grace Long.

 

Al grew up in Manhattan and Queens, New York and received a BA - Clinical Psychology from Queens College of the City of New York in 1961, and received an MS - Mental Health Counseling at UVM in 1987.

A member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Jericho, VT; Al helped repair hurricane damaged roofs in the Caribbean and volunteered to teach English and help families being resettled in Chittenden County, Vermont through the refugee resettlement program. Al enjoyed trips with his fellow church members and family to Mexico, Cuba, Saint Thomas, Saint John, St. Croix, and Saint Martin in the Caribbean, as well as trips to NY, ME, & FL. Albert loved being out on Lake Champlain on his Lightning sailboat. He loved classical music, crossword puzzles, history, especially Abraham Lincoln history, and he was a member of the Lincoln Society, Springfield, IL.

 

A Memorial Service will be held on August 14, at 3:00 pm at Good Shepherd.

Al was loved and will be missed.
