Evelyn Ruth Lavoie Obituary

LAVOIE, Evelyn R. (Greene), 84, of Ethel Ave., West Warwick, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 4, 2022. She was the beloved wife of 54 years to Albert H. Lavoie. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Mary (Roberts) Greene. Evelyn will be best remembered as a strong-willed, stubborn and most generous person. She was always there to lend help to any family member who needed a place to live, a shoulder to lean on or any kind of support. In her younger years she enjoyed playing cards, visiting with family and square dancing. New Hampshire was the annual family vacation and often Evelyn would do piecework at home to earn that vacation money. Aside from working at home, Evelyn enjoyed baking cakes for special celebrations like birthdays and weddings. One of her closest companions during this time in her life was her sister Barbara. They ate breakfast together daily and spent their time crafting and enjoying each other’s company. Later years brought daily car rides to Exeter with Albert often for Dunkin Donuts coffee. Numerous bus trips to Indian Head Resort in New Hampshire brought a smile to Evelyn’s face. In more recent years, you would have found Evelyn watching cooking shows in the den with her favorite companion Albert. Family was her most treasured commodity. Giving to her children and grandchildren gave her great joy. She would give whatever she could, whenever she saw them. She never asked for anything and was a hard person to buy gifts for as she was all about giving to everyone else. She will be sorely missed. Aside from her husband, she leaves two sons, Peter Lavoie and his wife Cynthia of Taunton, MA and Raymond Lavoie and his wife Jennifer of Coventry; four grandchildren, Zachary, Madison, Alex and Sarah and two siblings, Robert Greene and Dorothy Beaulieu. She was a sister to the late Arthur and Richard Greene, Barbara St. Jean and Carol Noel. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 9:00 – 11:00 am in the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick with a Funeral Service at 11:00 am. Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich. In lieu of flowers, donations in Evelyn's memory to the Rhode Island SPCA, 186 Amaral Street, Riverside, RI 02915 would be appreciated.
