John F. Lankelis Obituary

John Francis Lankelis of Burlington City, NJ passed away on August 04, 2022, at Virtua Hospital in Mt. Holly, at the age of 98. He was born in Burlington City, NJ and remained a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Burlington City High School, Class of 1942.  John honorably served his country during World War II as a member of the Army Air Corps. He worked as an electrician at US Pipe and Foundry and was a union officer for many years. He owned Lanky’s, the neighborhood grocery store, located on Elm Avenue in Burlington.  Some knew him as Pop Lanky.  He was a parishioner of St. Katherine Drexel Parish (St Paul’s Roman Catholic Church). John will be remembered as a smart, loving, honest, kindhearted man, who enjoyed working in his garden, watching his TV, and reading the newspaper.  He was a man of few words, and a hard worker. He was the son of the late Walter and Helen Lankelis of Burlington, husband of the late Alberta H Lankelis and brother of the late William T Lankelis. John was the loving father of 8 children:The late Thomas Lankelis; Survived by Janice (David) Flood, Jac (Barbara) Lankelis, Richard (Carolyn) Lankelis, Mary (Ed) Haegele, William (Amy) Lankelis, Lisa Lankelis, Andrea (John) Weincyzk. Also survived by 13 Grandchildren: Lauren, Jamie, Jackie, Luke, Ryan, Megan, Steve, Chris, Katie, Eric, Ian, Brooke and Brynne , 11 Great Grandchildren and uncle to many nieces and nephews from his spouses side. A good man now lost but to memory….  A viewing for John will be held from 9:30-10:30am, Thursday August 11, 2022 at the Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union St., Burlington.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Thursday in St. Paul R.C. Church, 223 E. Union St., Burlington.  Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Jacksonville Rd., Burlington. In lieu of flowers, donations to St Paul’s School, 250 James Street, Burlington NJ, 08016 would be appreciated by his family.  Messages of sympathy may be sent to the family through www.pagefuneralhome.com.
