James Dale "J.D." Burkes, Jr.

JAMES DALE “J.D.” BURKES, JR. James Dale “J.D.” Burkes, Jr., 36, of Palatka passed away Thursday, August 4, 2022 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Hastings. J.D. was born in the local hospital, now called HCA Florida Putnam Hospital in Palatka and had been a lifelong resident of Palatka. He was employed by Vallencourt Construction in Green Cove Springs where he worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator in land clearing and development. He enjoyed riding in the woods, sitting around the fire, and especially spending time with his son. Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, John and Joyce Smith; his paternal grandfather, Franklin Burkes; his son, William James Burkes; his step-father, Tony Kinlaw; a nephew, Jimmy Blake Bryant; and an uncle, Frank A. Burkes. Surviving are his father, Dale Burkes, Sr. (Jennifer); his mother, Susan Smith Kinlaw; a son, Franklin Dale Burkes; his fiancée, Stephanie Peacock; his maternal grandmother, Daisy Faye Burkes; a brother, John H. Smith; two sisters, Candy Horne (Phillip) and Jessica Burkes; and numerous nieces and nephews. J.D.’s life will be celebrated and God will be honored at a service 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 11th at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka with Pastor Ken Elliott officiating. The family will begin receiving friends one hour prior to the start of the service. Burial will follow in Etoniah Cemetery in Bardin.
