Obituary
Juan Antonio Yañez, Sr., 68, of Idaho Falls, passed away August 2, 2022, at the University of Utah Medical Center.
Juan was born January 31, 1954, in Matamoras Tamaulipas, Mexico, to Ricardo Yañez and Cecilia A. Yañez. He grew up and attended schools in San Benito, Texas.
Juan raised four children in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He worked as a mechanic for Basic American for 45 years.
He enjoyed body building, wrestling, funny cars, collecting guns, and watching old westerns and action movies. He raised roosters. He was very proud of his native culture.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved giving and helping others, and was known for his generosity.
Juan is survived by his daughters, Angela Yañez of Pocatello, ID, Celeste Squire of Roy, UT, Lucia M. Yañez of Pocatello, ID; sisters, Maria D.R. Yañez, Yolanda Y. (Michael) Yañez, both of Idaho Falls, ID; brothers, Hipolito Yañez, Jose C. Yañez of Shelley, ID, Carlos Guillen of Brownsville, TX, Alphonso (Delia) Longoria of Idaho Falls, ID; 16 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; and 21 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Juan A.Yañez, Jr.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the Coltman Ward, 12448 North 5th East, with Bishop Jay Schwieder officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Brickyard Event Center, 1025 S. Ammon Road, and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church.
