LaVera Anna Lyon, age 99 of Nebraska City died August 2, 2022 at The Ambassador in Nebraska City. LaVera was born May 9, 1923 on a farm east of Julian, the daughter of Ockie and Lottie (Schmidt) Burns. LaVera was one of two children and was baptized October 7, 1923 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Talmage and she was confirmed May 29, 1942 at First Lutheran Church in Nebraska City. She graduated from Julian High School in 1940 and attended Peru State College from 1940 to 1941. In the summer of 1941, she worked three years at the AAA Office in Auburn. She married Gerald Lyon October 6, 1943 at First Lutheran Church in Nebraska City by Pastor Schildt. Gerald passed away April 30, 1979. They lived on farms in Nemaha and Otoe Counties before purchasing their own farm near Nebraska City in 1956. LaVera worked at Wildwood Art Gallery & Gift Shop for 34 years before she retired in 2014. She was an longtime active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she serve on the Alter Guild, Martha Circle and helped with many lucneons. She was also a former member of the Eagles Auxiliary and AARP. LaVera loved traveling, quilting, embroidering and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her son, Ted (Phyllis) Lyon of Nebraska City; son in law, Ron Lamaak of Sac City, IA; grandchildren, Tanya Lyon and Don Bourne, Travis (Patty) Lyon, Theresa (Mark) Foster, Joni (Travis) Reiling, and Cathi (Ben) Ringgenberg; great grandchildren, McKenna and Evan Bourne, Sophie, Weston and Knox Lyon, MacKinzie and Madelyn Foster, Morgan and Cole Reiling, Derek and Sidney Ringgenberg; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Ann Lamaak; sister and brother in law, Laurine and Ed Borchers.
