Mary A. Newman Obituary
The family of Mary A. Newman of Pittsfield are saddened to share that she passed on August 1, 2022.
She was surrounded by her loving family at Berkshire Medical Center. Mary was born on March 27, 1933 to the late Pietro and Maria Delmolino Albertazzi. She was a graduate of Searles High School in Great Barrington where she grew up on the family farm on North Plain Road.
She married her high school sweetheart Lewis “Butch” C. Newman Jr., on Valentine's Day in 1953. Sadly, the thirty-year anniversary of his passing was July 23, just days ago. After his passing her loyal companion was her beloved Bichon pup, Bianco.
Mrs. Newman was a homemaker who enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, baking, and cooking. Some of her favorites were her roses, Hawaiian Cake, and Polenta. Mary also worked at the Friendly’s on Elm Street. She loved her ice cream – chocolate and butter pecan especially.
She was a communicant of the former St. Teresa’s Church as well as Sacred Heart Church. She loved playing BINGO, Scrabble, cards, and cribbage. She enjoyed trips to the casino to play slots and to go out to eat. Throughout her life Mary enjoyed traveling and she always shared her fond memories of camping in Yellowstone and at Hammonasset Beach. She loved roadtrips and taking vacations with family to such places as Lake Champlain, Moosehead Lake in Maine, Myrtle Beach and the Caribbean. She loved her lobster dinners and pina coladas.
Mrs. Newman is survived by her daughters, Ann Marie Newman Stevens and husband Robert L. Stevens, Sr., of Pittsfield, Lisa Louise Newman Paglier and husband John Paglier, Jr. of Pittsfield; her son, Peter Newman and wife Maria of Lanesboro. Mary adored her five grandchildren: Rob Stevens, Rachael Stevens Robie, Christopher Parker II, Juliana Paglier and Paul Boutiette; as well as nine great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held, Monday, August 8, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor. Burial will follow at Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be held, Sunday, August 7, 2022 from 3 to 5 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield. Flowers are appreciated, or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one's favorite charity in her name.
