George Jack Hendricks

George Jack Hendricks, 90, of Letart, WV, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 21, 2021. He was born in Whitesville, WV, on April 26, 1931, to Lon and Mae Hendricks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Frances; and sisters, Lucille Dominion and Roberta Brown. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Jackie (Kathy) Hendricks of Florida; daughters, Dreama (Gary) Lemaster of Ravenswood, and Kellie (Scott) Powell of Millwood; grandchildren, Jessica Sanders, Zach, Jaclyn and Ashley Hendricks, Heather Angus, Kristin McCartney, Coty Giles, Allison Schutte, Ryan Abel; great grandchildren, Gavin, Morgan and Allister McCartney, Abby and Emily Sanders, Gabriel, Amelia and Elianna Schutte; and his sisters, Mary Jane (Ted) Stover of Ripley, JoAnn (Eugene) McCormick of Whitesville, and Jean Herrald of Florida. Jack was a good man that enjoyed the simple things in life; a clean truck, a country drive, a good joke, a sweet treat, a cold diet coke, a good hot dog, a freshly mowed lawn, and baseball. One of his favorite things to do was handing out gum everywhere he went. From banks, hospitals, or church, if you met Jack, you probably received a stick of gum or a whole pack. He was a generous man who loved to make people smile. He was always ready with a plate of Little Debbie snack cakes and chips for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved his wife, who he told everyone was the best woman ever to live, and his daughters, who he sent flowers and Valentine candy to every year. Like many men his age, Jack moved to Ravenswood for a job at Kaiser Aluminum, where he spent 30 years working to support his family. Prior to that, he worked on the railroad and never lost the love of trains, eventually moving to a house by the river in Letart where he would watch the trains go by from his front porch. Jack had a passion for baseball and softball and considered the girls and boys he coached as family. He dedicated 20 years to coaching, and he, along with Earl Wolfe, worked to make sure the first set of lights ever were installed on the high school baseball field. One of his proudest accomplishments was placing 4th in the Class C Nationals with his women's softball team, Hartley Oil. Jack organized and coached the travel team from its inception, with players from Ravenswood, Ripley, Parkersburg, Charleston, Huntington, Pt. Pleasant, and Beckley. Jack was a member of the Kaiser & Douglas Church of Christ. He loved his church family and attending services. A quote from granddaughter, Heather Angus said it best about her grandfather; "Today, my grandfather reunited with my grandmother in Heaven. He was an amazing grandfather, full of life and funny jokes all 90 years of his life. I can imagine him and my grandmother driving Shy (my dog) around on a long car ride, drinking diet coke and listening to Roy Orbison." A public graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at 11:00 am at the Ravenswood Cemetery. Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood is in charge of arrangements.
