Marie Jewell DeLong, of Ravenswood, WV, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on February 11, 2022. Marie was born November 28, 1932, in Ripley, WV, the eldest daughter of the late Charles Walter and Maple Hogue Jewell. Marie was double promoted and graduated from Ripley High School with the Class of 1949. She started her work career in banking before going to work for Goodwin & Goodwin, Attorney's at Law in Ripley, WV, and becoming the Office Manager/Legal Secretary for Skeen and Skeen in Ripley, WV. Marie loved serving her community in many capacities, including being a member of the Ravenswood Junior Women's Club and Ravenswood Women's Club. She was a member of the Ravenswood Volunteer Fire Department, Women's Auxiliary, where she served as Secretary/Treasurer for many years. She was a lifetime member of R. Douglass Chapter #15, Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron several times. Marie was very passionate about being a 30 plus year AARP Volunteer Tax Preparer/Program Coordinator. She was an extremely active member of First Baptist Church of Ravenswood, where she was a member for over 55 years. She served as Church Clerk and taught the Omega Sunday School Class until her death. She was a member of the West Virginia Baptist Convention and the Good Hope Association, where she served as Secretary/Treasurer for several years. She is survived by her son, Michael P. DeLong and wife Renee of Ravenswood; grandsons, Matthew DeLong and Kristina Stepanski of Ravenswood, and Marc DeLong and wife Hannah of South Charleston; great granddaughter, Madyson DeLong of Ravenswood; brother, Bill Jewell of Ripley, WV; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul G. DeLong; her beloved youngest son, Mark E. DeLong; her brothers, Jim Jewell, and Fred (Peggy) Jewell; sister, Lola (Everett) Randolph; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Jewell. Family and friends may visit Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood on Thursday, February 17, 2022, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A short Eastern Star Service will be conducted at 6:30 pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 18, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Ravenswood at 11:00 am, with one hour of visitation before the service. Burial will follow in Ravenswood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to R. Douglass Chapter #15, 401 South Ritchie Avenue, Ravenswood, WV, or First Baptist Church, 215 Ann Street, Ravenswood, WV 26164. The service will be live-streamed at the church.
