Phyllis Marie “Corky” McCommack

Phyllis Marie "Corky" McCommack of Ravenswood, West Virginia went to be with her Lord and Saviour on December 20, 2021. Phyllis was born on July 28, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois to John Roy and Lucille Poston. Phyllis grew up in the town of Burnham Illinois with her younger sister, Linda Lou, and brother, John Roy. Her early years were spent as the village clerk in Burnham. At 40 years of age she decided to start a new career and went to nursing school. After receiving her RN degree she worked in the Cancer Unit of the local hospital. In 1994 she followed her husband back to his home state of West Virginia and they settled in Ravenswood on off Route 68 on "Red Row". Continuing her career in nursing she spent a few years at a nursing home as the Nurse in Charge and then went on to finish her career at CAMC in Charleston retiring in 2016. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 55 years, Jerry Robert McCommack, sr. Phyllis is survived by her son Jerry Robert (Josephine) McCommack, jr of Ravenswood, WV, and daughter Christy Lynn (Mark) Bievenour of Gulfport MS. Her sister Linda Meyer of Dyer, Illinois, and brother John Roy (Sue) Poston of St. John Indiana. Phyllis had eight grandchildren Krystal (Bobby) Gilliland of Virginia Beach, VA, Jerry Robert (Morgan) McCommack, III of Conway, SC, Chelsea Lynn McCommack of Virginia Beach, VA, Ana Marie (Shawn) Malone of Parkersburg, WV, Emily Elizabeth (Adam) Scritchfield of Ravenswood, WV, Renee, Sarah and Nathan Bievenour of Gulfport, MS., and a very close friend she chose to think of as a granddaughter Hannah Lech of Virginia Beach, VA. Phyllis also had seven great grandchildren Gavin, Caleb and Lincoln Malone, Francis, Whyatt and Dax McCommack and Lydia Gilliland. Phyllis had numerous nieces and nephews she cherished as well as great nieces and nephews. Spending time with family and friends was one of Phyllis' greatest joys, she also liked hosting gatherings at her home she and Jerry made in Ravenswood. She was an avid bowler and fishing was a passion. Phyllis fought a courageous battle with cancer fighting till her Lord held out His hand and welcomed her home. Phyllis will be missed by all who knew her. Family and Friends will be received at Second Baptist Church on the corner of Ann and Elwood in Ravenswood, WV on Monday, December 27, 2021, from 4pm to 6pm with service at 6pm officiated by Dr. S.R. Parsons. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to Heritage Christian Academy 300 Elwood Street, Ravenswood, WV 26164.
